This is a note to let you know that I will be closing my private practice at the end of June of this year.
I have been working privately for 10 years now, since I went back to work after my first daughter was born. It has been a real gift to be able to have the kind of flexibility that I do, both in terms of how much I work and what hours, and I've been lucky to form close relationships with many of my clients and their families. In the fall, my youngest will be starting kindergarten, and all three of my kids will be in school full time. I am looking forward to some new adventures, which will hopefully allow me to work more while my kids are in school, and less on evenings and weekends. If you are looking for SLP services, a roster of private SLPs is working in Alberta is available at www.asapp.ca.

Just a note to confirm that I will be offering two semesters of Music Together Within Therapy groups in 2023. Winter semester will run January–April, and spring semester will run April–June. Current information on dates and location can be found here: Classes
I've been putting lots of information about this group on my Instagram, and everything is saved as a highlight; I hope to add to this in the coming months! You can find me on instagram @unisonSLP Cheers! - Tegan After a week away for some camping to begin the summer, I'm excited to start my summer of seeing individual clients in a variety of settings—this summer I have telehealth, office visits inside, backyard office visits, and home visits! I'm fully booked for July and August, but may have space for new individual clients starting in September.
I'm also planning to run a Music Together Within Therapy group this fall. The group will be Saturday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m. between September 10 and December 17 (10 sessions total, exact dates TBA). I will be taking up to four clients and their families for this group, and possibly some community models. So if you're interested in working on speech-language skills in a super-fun music-based group, OR if you just want to come and sing and dance with us, please do consider registering! I'd love to have you! So excited to announce that I will be running a Music Together Within Therapy Group this spring! I have missed doing these classes so much over the past two years. All the details for the upcoming semester can be found here, including a beautiful new location (Spirit of Hope United Church) with lots of space to spread out and move around. If you haven't yet had a chance to check it out, I have lots of information about the philosophy of these groups, who they're a good fit for, and lots of logistical details here. You'll see I've listed some COVID protocols for the purposes of this group. Many of these things are practices I keep even under normal circumstances. Masking for this group is not required, but you and/or your child are definitely welcome and encouraged to wear masks if that's what you are most comfortable with. I am trying to balance the fact that many of our little ones are not yet eligible to be vaccinated (not to mention the possibility and likelihood of higher risk individuals in our lives) with the advantage, when it comes to speech-language therapy, of having mouths visible. I am definitely open to feedback regarding your family's needs, comfort level, and priorities, and I'm anticipating that there may be some shifts in these protocols based on that feedback, as well as the ever-changing COVID landscape and any government recommendations. Can't wait to be making music together so soon! Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
- Tegan Looking for a contract SLP to take on some families in the new year.
I have recently updated my available services, including all COVID protocols which will be followed for in-person sessions. Individual speech-language sessions are available via telehealth (video session) or in-person at this time. There's lots of information at the link above. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
Stay well, and best of luck to everyone at the start of a new school year! I thought I'd pop on to give a little update about how services are looking this fall and winter! After a full summer of doing mostly backyard speech therapy, the snow and cold are here, so I've moved inside. I am primarily doing sessions through telehealth, and this is mostly working really well. I'm developing some new tricks and a toolbox of digital materials; we're keeping things short, focused, and fun. I"m learning lots alongside the SLP students I supervise at the University of Alberta, as they are also doing clinical placements on telehealth, and they are seemingly endlessly creative when it comes to activity design. There are some challenges, for sure—lots of my physical games don't translate well, and it can sometimes be hard to see and hear what a client is doing. When we're working on developing and practicing clear sounds, this can be especially challenging. Lots of the strategies I use for sound placement require me to use my ears and eyes as well as a variety of cues to help the client find the right things to do. In some cases I've found that this work simply has to be in person. So I am also seeing some clients in my home office, with plenty of precautions and a variety of PPE. I've updated my 'Services and Fees' section to fully reflect what's happening here right now. There will be no Music Together Within Therapy groups until I can have a group of families singing together without masks, since it's so important in that program that we can sing, move freely, and also see each other's mouths.
I hope that, whatever this winter looks like for you, you are well, healthy, and finding moments of joy. - Tegan I have been thoughtfully considering resuming in-person services, planning, and making preparations, and I now have everything ready to go. Here's how sessions will look at Unison in the next little bit.
In-person services will be at my home office only—no home visits yet. I will also continue doing telehealth/video sessions either for all your sessions or as needed in case anyone is sick or isolating. For in-person sessions, the following precautions will be in place:
I'm so looking forward to getting out from behind my computer screen and seeing some of you in person! Due to COVID-19, no in-person services are being offered at this time. I am seeing existing clients via teletherapy, and I'm happy to schedule video consultations for new clients, schedule permitting. Feel free to get in touch.
I am also starting to get inquiries about fall services, and I know that recent funding changes to the PUF program are putting many families in uncertain situations. I will be trying to see as many families as I can in the fall, and I'm hoping to offer a couple of groups: my Music Together Within Therapy groups for kids birth to 6, but also groups specific to kindergarten students focusing on speech and language goals. Feel free to contact me by email any time over the spring and summer to discuss treatment options. Stay well! - Tegan There are puddles on the ground and, although it seems unlikely that we're done with winter, it does seem like a good time to think about spring activities! I'll be running a Music Together Within Therapy group staring the beginning of April to the end of June. Click here for class details! As always, MTWT groups feature small class sizes, personalized coaching, and a focus on specific speech and language goals appropriate to your child. All this wrapped up in a background of music and movement activities perfect for young ones!
