(Did you know you can sing "This is the way we wash our hands" to the tune of "Here we go 'round the mulberry bush" as a way to support understanding and use of language related to this routine? Music makes hand washing more fun, and kids hear the vocabulary they need repeated many times! It might go something like this:
This is the way we wash our hands, Wash our hands, wash our hands; This is the way we wash our hands, Getting ready for lunch!) All this to say, cold and flu season is here, and so I am posting my yearly reminder about preventing the spread of germs. While I do sanitize the materials I use during speech sessions as much as is practical and possible, the best thing to do is for everyone to wash their hands. Please help, ask, or remind your child to wash their hands with soap immediately before seeing me. As always, there is no charge if you need to cancel a session due to illness, so please use the same criteria you would when deciding whether or not to send your child to school, when deciding whether to keep an appointment with me. Thank-you!

Speech-language pathology services are often covered through employee benefit plans. Typically, I'll give you a receipt for services, which you are able to submit for reimbursement. I am now also set up to provide direct billing through Alberta Blue Cross. So if you have coverage through Alberta Blue Cross, feel free to bring in your card, and I can submit the claim directly at the time of your session.
Please spread the word about Music Together Within Therapy groups being offered starting in September 2018! These are small, family-oriented music and movement groups designed to support the speech and language goals of children birth through 6 years. We can work on specific skills, just as you might in an individual therapy session or a preschool classroom, and we do it through music! There's a focus on parent education, siblings are welcome, and it's lots of fun.
I'll be working from a new studio space this fall, which I'm very excited about: a proper dance studio, with lots of space to move (and not a lot of distractions)! We'll be at L'Association la Girandole d'Edmonton on Saturday afternoons from 1:30–2:30 p.m. All the information about MTWT and class details can be found on my website. Check it out! Well, I've been gone from this space for a few months, and there is a very cute reason for that—our family welcomed a little boy at the end of January, and I've been on maternity leave, squeezing in all the baby snuggles I can! I am so looking forward to working with some individual clients and some groups starting in September, though! For the last couple months I've been supervising SLP students at the University of Alberta, and watching their first clinical experience and all their great ideas has been so inspiring! I can't wait to get back at it. My schedule for individual clients starting in September will be: Tuesday daytimes Thursday afternoons/evenings Saturday mornings I will also be running a Music Together Within Therapy group on Saturdays at 1:30 p.m. More info on that coming soon! If you're interested in setting up individual services or registering for a MTWT group, please get in touch! And please do be patient with me if my response time continues to be a bit slow... I'm easing myself back into work, always trying to balance all these things I love. - Tegan
There has been a time change for the Music Together Within Therapy class starting in September 2017. Classes will now be from 10:30–11:30 a.m. on Saturdays (moved from an afternoon time to hopefully better accommodate kiddos who nap)!
The semester will run from September 23–November 25 at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church (near Southgate). Schedule, location, and rates can be found here. If you're already thinking about fall activities, I've posted the Music Together Within Therapy group schedule for the fall. Classes will run Saturday afternoons on the South side starting in September. As always, tuition will include a home visit in preparation for the class, 10 group classes, high-quality materials, and a small group setting. All the details can be found here: Music Together Within Therapy Class schedule and locations Registration form If you have any questions (or would like to see alternate times/locations), please contact me! Registration is now open for spring semester of Music Together Within Therapy groups! So, what speech, language, or communication skills can we work on in a music and movement program?
Visit www.unisonSLP.com for details and to register!
Please note: iIf you are interested in registering but the posted time/day does not work for you, please message me, as I may be able to open more classes if there is enough interest. Winter semester of Music Together Within Therapy (to support speech, language, and communication!) will begin this weekend! There are still limited spaces available, and it's not to late to get in on the action. Spring semester will start in April, for another 10 sessions of great music and fun.
Come join us for 10 classes of singing, dancing, instruments, and fun! While your child is jamming and grooving, they'll also be bolstering their speech, language, and communication skills. And, you will be learning how to integrate speech and language learning at home!
There's lots more information here, on the website, and I'm adding all the time. Come see what it's all about! |
